blur

Techniques page - overlay

  • shoot two types of pictures, eg patterns and portraits
  • choose 2 or more pictures to overlay on photoshop
  • drag over the first and play with opacity
  • rub out with a soft edged

Overlay

This was the manual over lay shoot. I preferred this shoot to the automatic camera overlays because it allowed you to vary the pictures and experiment more with the photos as well as use them twice. My favourite photo is definitely the middle one of Jamie. I like it because it is unique to every other edit I have completed.

Multiple flash

These two pictures were only an experimentation with Multiple Flash. They essentially show the basics of what you can achieve in a short amount of time. My favourite is the one of kate pictured on a black background, with the 3 arms, I think this shot would be good for serialism. Multiple flash would be useful with that sort of genre of photography, but i'm still not sure how i would apply it to media.

Multiple Flash - Techniques page

In order to achieve Multiple flash;
  • In the studio, set up a light that can be controlled by a hand held controller. If you are using a black background, make sure it is covered so it isn't lit when the flash goes off.
  • Set your camera to the shutter speed 'B' standing for bulb which allows you to control the shutter speed by the length of time you hold the shoot button down.
  • before shooting, turn on a modelling light and focus the camera into the subject.
  • turn the modelling light off
  • hold the shooting button down and set the flash off 1-5 times
  • if on a white background make sure your model overlapped the previous frame otherwise it will burn out
  • do not do too many exposures, otherwise it will burn out.

Multiple Exposure - Technique page

In order to achieve the best picture, follow the following;

Set camera to multiple exposure
– menu
– p for program
– multiple exposure
Set the exposure compensator to minus (on top of camera +/-)
Make sure the ISO is 200 and the picture size is 5M

Multiple flash - image bank

From my observations, Multiple Flash seems to work more effectively on a darker set background and the subjects are mostly people. I like the picture of the Buddha pose (ginger girl). I like the simplistic composition of it and the basic colour contrasts of the ginger hair and black back drop. I like the idea of this technique because it it very artistic and you can manipulate light easily to create a piece that is both original and interesting. The amount of flashes they include in the photo, depends on how deep the picture or light it is. For example the darker pictures tend to have only 3-4 exposures while the lighter has about 8.

Image Bank - Multiple exposure.

These are all examples of multiple exposure, the varied nature of which shows how flexible this technique is. I like the bottom picture the most because they simplicity of the effect. The way he has used the glow sticks to create a piece of art, clearly shows that it can be very easy to create an eye pleasing piece. I like how out of the ordinary it is and has its own originality. I also like the layered pictures of the cats and sports people. I think this effect is really effective and i'd like to try to replicate the same technique. Finally, I like how the photographer has used different technique such as contrast between the blue background and ginger cat and the bright pink leotard. Also the composure is well thought out.
